Description:
Uses / Indications
- Acute diarrhea—Lessens watery, loose stools.
- Chronic diarrhea: Helps control long-term diarrhea with the help of a doctor.
- Traveler's diarrhea: helps with symptoms.
- Diarrhea in IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) — For people with diarrhea-predominant IBS, it makes them go less often.
How It Works
- Lopidus has Loperamide in it, which is a medication that stops diarrhea. It makes the intestines flow more slowly and helps the body absorb more water and electrolytes from the gut. This makes stools harder and less frequent.
How to Use
- Take exactly what your doctor says to.
- You can take it with or without food, but you should drink water with it.
- Don't take more than the prescribed amount.
- If you missed a dosage, take it as soon as you remember, but don't take it twice.
- Duration: Usually no longer than two days without a doctor's supervision.
- To avoid dehydration, drink a lot of fluids.

Pregnancy Interaction
- Only use if a doctor says you need to.
- There isn't a lot of research on loperamide during pregnancy, so don't use it all the time.
- Breastfeeding: Talk to your doctor if you think small quantities may go into your breast milk.
Medicine Interaction
- Some antibiotics and antifungals that block CYP3A4 may raise loperamide levels, which could lead to toxicity.
- Other anti-diarrheals or CNS depressants may make you more sleepy or constipated.
- Heart drugs, including amiodarone, can modify the way your heart beats.
- Tell your doctor about all the medicines you use, include over-the-counter ones and vitamins.
Expert Advice
- Do not use if you have bloody diarrhea or a high fever; this could mean you have an infection.
- Don't use it for a long time or over and over again without your doctor's permission.
- Stay hydrated while you have diarrhea.
- Stay away from alcohol and sedatives; they can make you more tired.
- If your symptoms don't go away after 48 hours, see a doctor.
