- It works by:
- Stopping the formation of bacterial cell walls
- Killing bacteria (bactericidal action)
- Taking powerful action against a lot of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
- It works well for infections that are moderate to severe.
Medicine Interaction
- Stay away from:
- IV solutions with calcium in them (like Ringer's lactate) might cause harmful precipitates.
- Be careful when using with:
- Aminoglycosides (Amikacin, Gentamicin) => More damage to the kidneys
- Loop diuretics (Furosemide) => Risk of kidney damage
- Warfarin → More likely to bleed
- Alcohol: May make you feel sick or flush (rarely)
- Always tell your doctor about any medications, vitamins, or shots you are taking.
How to Use
- Only healthcare experts can give it IV (intravenous) or IM (intramuscular).
- The usual dose is 1 g once a day, however it may change depending on how bad the infection is.
- Duration: 5 to 14 days, depending on the condition.
