How It Works
- Telmisartan stops angiotensin II from tightening blood vessels, which relaxes them and reduces blood pressure.
- Hydrochlorothiazide decreases blood pressure by removing extra salt and water from the kidneys, which lowers blood volume.
- When used together, they lower blood pressure more and help control high blood pressure that doesn't respond to other treatments.

- Potassium-sparing diuretics, such as spironolactone, can raise potassium levels.
- ACE inhibitors and other ARBs can hurt the kidneys.
