Description:
Pregnancy interaction
- Telmisartan (ARB) makes it unsafe to get pregnant, especially in the second and third trimesters.
- Could hurt the baby's kidneys, lower the amount of amniotic fluid, slow growth, or even kill the baby.
- Pregnant women or women who want to get pregnant shouldn't use it.
- Amlodipine alone has a lower risk, but the two together are not safe.
- Methyldopa, labetalol, and nifedipine (if recommended) are safer options.

How It Works
- Telmisartan stops angiotensin II from working, which stops blood vessels from tightening. This makes blood vessels relax and lowers blood pressure.
- Amlodipine relaxes the smooth muscles of blood arteries, which makes it easier for blood to flow.
- The combo works better than either medicine alone to regulate blood pressure.
- Helps lower the chances of having a stroke, heart attack, or kidney injury.
Medicine interaction
- Potassium-sparing diuretics (spironolactone, eplerenone)—increased risk of potassium levels rising
- ACE inhibitors and other ARBs raise the risk of renal problems.
- Lithium—danger of toxicity
- NSAIDs (such as diclofenac and ibuprofen) may make the drug less effective and hurt the kidneys.
- Other antihypertensives can make blood pressure decrease too much.
- Diuretics—first, a dramatic drop in blood pressure
- Grapefruit juice may raise the levels of amlodipine.
- Drinking alcohol makes you feel dizzy.
How to use
- Take one pill per day with water.
- You can take it with or without food.
- Every day, take it at the same time.
- Do NOT chew or crush the tablet.
- If you miss a dose, take it quickly unless it's near to the next one.
- Don't take two doses.
Uses/indications
- Blood pressure that is too high (hypertension)
- When BP is not managed with Telmisartan alone
- Patients with high blood pressure who need medication with two different types of drugs
- Lowers the chance of heart attack, stroke, and kidney problems in people who are at high risk.
