Onglyza 2.5mg Tablet is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It is used in addition to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes.
Pregnancy interaction:
Onglyza 2.5mg Tablet is probably safe to use during pregnancy.Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effect on the foetus, however, there are limited human studies. Please consult your doctor.

Onglyza helps to control high blood sugar level and avoid long-term complications of diabetes. Onglyza can be taken with or without food. Monitor your blood sugar regularly. Chances of weight gain and low blood sugar are lesser as compared to other diabetes medicines. Inform your doctor immediately if you have severe stomach pain, nausea, and/or vomiting. These could be symptoms of pancreatitis. Inform your doctor immediately if you have severe joint pain.
Side Effects:
Headache, Upper respiratory tract infection, Hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar level) in combination with insulin or sulphonylurea, Nasopharyngitis (inflammation of the throat and nasal passages).
How to use:
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Onglyza 2.5mg Tablet may be taken with or without food, but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
How it works:
Onglyza 2.5mg Tablet is an anti-diabetic medication. It works by increasing the release of insulin from the pancreas and decreasing the hormones that raise blood sugar levels. This reduces the fasting and postmeal sugar levels.

Does Onglyza cause any weight loss (reduction)? : No, Onglyza neither causes weight loss nor weight gain. It is weight neutral. However, weight gain can be seen when Onglyza is used with other antidiabetic medicines like thiazolidinediones, sulfonylureas or insulin.|Can Onglyza cause cancer? : Onglyza belongs to the group of drugs called incretins which have been associated with pancreatic cancer in some clinical studies. However, a definite evidence that they cause cancer is missing, so, it is advisable to talk to your doctor regarding the same.|Can I use Onglyza with pioglitazone? : Yes, Onglyza can be used with pioglitazone. A combined use of the two medicines would be more effective in controlling blood sugar levels than either medicine alone. In case the patient develops symptoms of heart failure like increasing shortness of breath, the rapid increase in weight and swelling of the feet (pedal edema). Stop taking Onglyza and inform your doctor.|How effective is Onglyza for diabetes mellitus? : Onglyza is indicated along with dietary modification and exercise in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is seen to significantly reduce blood glucose levels and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) when taken as a single drug or in combination with other anti-diabetic drugs.|Is it beneficial to use Onglyza with glipizide? : Yes, it is beneficial to take Onglyza and glipizide. Both are antidiabetic drugs, however, they work in different ways. When taken together, they can help in better control of blood sugar levels.
