Beta-lactamase is an enzyme produced by the bacteria that cause multidrug-resistant (MDR) TB. The antibiotics are broken down and rendered useless by this enzyme. Consequently, the bacteria develop resistance to the antibiotic being administered. Amoxycillin and clavulanic acid are the two active components in Omniclav Dry Syrup. Amoxycillin works to kill the bacteria that causes tuberculosis, but clavulanic acid prevents the enzyme from making it ineffective. Because of this, amoxycillin and clavulanic acid work well together to treat resistant TB.
