How It Works
- This combo works for both urine problems and an enlarged prostate:
- Tamsulosin (0.4 mg) is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker that relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck. This makes it easier for urine to flow and eases urinary symptoms like frequent urination, a weak stream, or not fully emptying the bladder.
- Finasteride (5 mg) is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that stops testosterone from turning into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is the hormone that makes the prostate expand. It makes the enlarged prostate smaller over time and stops it from getting bigger.
- They work together to instantly ease urinary symptoms and shrink the prostate over time.
Medicine Interaction
- Stay away from or use with care:
- Alpha-blockers, including Doxazosin and Terazosin, can make blood pressure decrease too much.
- Antihypertensives: an additional effect that can make you feel dizzy or faint.
- Cimetidine (for acidity) may raise the levels of Tamsulosin.
- Finasteride may change how warfarin works, so keep a close eye on your INR.
- Erythromycin, ketoconazole, and paroxetine may raise the levels and negative effects of Tamsulosin.
- Alcohol: may make you feel more dizzy or sleepy.
- Before starting any combination, always tell your doctor about any drugs or supplements you are already taking.
How to Use
- Every day, after the same meal, take one tablet.
- Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet; just swallow it whole with water.
