Information about Combigan Eye Drop

Uses / Indications:

Open-angle glaucoma → to lower intraocular pressure. Ocular hypertension → high eye pressure without optic nerve damage. Used when monotherapy with either Timolol or Brimonidine alone is insufficient. Prevents progression of optic nerve damage and vision loss in glaucoma patients.

Pregnancy interaction:

Timolol: Beta-blockers can cross the placenta and may affect fetal heart rate and blood pressure. Use only if clearly needed; avoid in the third trimester. Brimonidine: Use with caution during pregnancy; may cause CNS depression in newborns if used late in pregnancy. Overall: Combination should be used only under strict medical supervision during pregnancy, preferably after consulting an ophthalmologist.

Wash hands before applying eye drops. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any surface to prevent contamination. Close eyes gently and press the inner corner (punctal occlusion) for 1–2 minutes after instillation. May cause temporary blurred vision or mild burning—avoid driving until vision clears. How to use:

Close eyes gently and press the inner corner for 1–2 minutes (punctal occlusion) to reduce systemic absorption. If using other eye drops, wait 5–10 minutes before applying. Replace the cap tightly and store at room temperature.

How it works:

Timolol (beta-blocker): Decreases aqueous humor production in the eye → lowers intraocular pressure. Brimonidine (alpha-2 agonist): Decreases aqueous humor production and increases uveoscleral outflow. Combined effect: Synergistic reduction of intraocular pressure, protecting the optic nerve and preventing glaucoma progression.
