Description:
Uses/Signs
- Essential hypertension (high blood pressure) that can't be managed by only one medicine.
- Preventing heart disease, stroke, and kidney damage caused by high blood pressure over time.
- Management of angina (chest pain) and other heart disorders where the goal is to lower the workload on the heart.
- Controlling your blood pressure lowers your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
How It Works
- Cilnidipine relaxes and opens up blood vessels by blocking both L-type and N-type calcium channels. This lowers vascular resistance and nerve-induced artery constriction.
- Metoprolol succinate (a β₁-selective beta-blocker) decreases the heart rate, lowers the amount of blood the heart pumps out, and calms palpitations.
- ✅ Cilnidipine lowers resistance, and metoprolol lessens the work of the heart, giving you strong, consistent blood pressure control around the clock.
How to Use
- Dosage: Usually one tablet once a day, as directed.
- When to take it: every day at the same time, preferably after a meal.
- Take the whole thing with water; don't crush or chew it (extended-release form).
- Don't stop all of a sudden; doing so could make your blood pressure go up or your chest hurt.
- Missed dose: Take it when you recall, but skip it if it's close to the next dose. Never do it twice.
Side effects
- Feeling dizzy or light-headed
- Headache or tiredness
- Bradycardia, or a slow heart rate
- Swelling in the feet and ankles (edema)
- Face getting red or hot
Sometimes:
- Feeling sick and having stomach pain
- Problems with sleep or vivid dreams
- Hands or feet that are cold
- Serious (rare—get help):
- Wheezing or shortness of breath
- Heartbeats that aren't regular or an extremely sluggish pulse
- Very bad dizziness or passing out
- Allergic reaction (swelling of the cheeks, lips, and neck)
- Most side effects are modest and go away when the body gets used to them. Tell your doctor if they don't go away.
Pregnancy interaction
- Pregnancy: Insufficient human data. If you take metoprolol for a long time, it could induce fetal bradycardia or growth restriction. Only use it if the benefits outweigh the risks and you are being watched by a doctor.
- Breastfeeding: Metoprolol shows up in breast milk in modest concentrations, but there isn't much information about Cilnidipine. Be careful when using it and keep an eye on your baby.
- Before you start taking this prescription, always tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
Medicine interaction
- Other antihypertensives, like ACE inhibitors, ARBs, and diuretics, can decrease blood pressure even further.
- Calcium channel blockers or beta-blockers: May reduce heart rate too much or lower blood pressure.
- Antiarrhythmics (Amiodarone, Verapamil): Higher chance of bradycardia.
- NSAIDs (Ibuprofen, Diclofenac): lessen the effect of blood pressure medications.
- CYP3A4 inducers (rifampicin, phenytoin) lower the levels of cilnidipine.
- Alcohol makes you sleepy and lowers your blood pressure, so stay away from it.
Interactions with other diseases:
- Asthma or COPD: Metoprolol may make airways smaller, so be careful when using it.
- Heart block or bradycardia: Don't use it, or use it with cautious monitoring.
- Use with caution if you have liver problems since metoprolol and cilnidipine are broken down in the liver.
Expert Advice
- Take it every day at the same time; don't miss days or stop all of a sudden.
- Check your blood pressure and pulse often, and let us know if your pulse is less than 50 beats per minute.
- Don't drink or smoke; they make it harder to control your blood pressure.
- To avoid passing out, get up carefully from a sitting or reclining position.
- Don't drive or use machinery until you know how you'll respond.
- A low-salt diet and exercise make the treatment work better.
- If you have trouble breathing, feel tired, or have swollen ankles, tell your doctor.
