Description:
Uses/Indications
- Bilaford-M Tablet is an anti-allergic drug that works in two ways. It is used to treat respiratory and allergic disorders like
- Allergic rhinitis occurs when you have a runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, and itching.
- Allergies that happen at certain times of the year because of pollen, dust, or pet dander
- Chronic urticaria (hives) is a skin condition that causes itchy, red, raised rashes.
- Preventing asthma (as an extra treatment for mild persistent asthma)
- Allergic conjunctivitis and ocular irritation that goes along with it
- This combination helps with symptoms and protects against inflammation, which helps reduce allergies in the long run.
How It Works
- Bilastine (20 mg) is an antihistamine that doesn't make you sleepy. It stops histamine (H₁) receptors from working, which stops sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and nasal discomfort. It works for 24 hours without making you sleepy.
- Montelukast (10 mg) is a leukotriene receptor antagonist (LTRA) that stops leukotrienes, which are substances that cause inflammation and make the airways enlarge, make mucus, and make the nose stuffy. It helps you breathe better and keeps asthma symptoms from getting worse.
These substances work together to ease both sudden allergy symptoms and underlying inflammation.
How to Use
- Take one pill every day, preferably at night or when your doctor tells you to.
- Do not chew or crush; just swallow whole with a glass of water.
- You can take it with or without food.
- For continuous relief, take it at the same time every day.
- Don't take more than the recommended dose.
- Missed dosage: If you forget to take a dose, do it as soon as you recall. Don't take two doses if it's close to the time for the next one.
Side effects
- Pain in the head
- Sleepiness or moderate tiredness
- Pain in the stomach or indigestion
- Mouth that is dry
- Feeling sick
- Dizziness
- Side effects that are less prevalent or more serious:
- Changes in mood or agitation (rare, because of montelukast)
- Problems with sleep or really vivid nightmares
- Rash or responses that are too sensitive
- Palpitations (not very common)
- Call your doctor right away if you have side effects that last a long time or are really bad.
Medicines interaction
- Other antihistamines, such as cetirizine and fexofenadine, may make side effects worse.
- Antifungal and antibiotic medicines, such as ketoconazole and erythromycin, may raise the levels of bilastine.
- Alcohol or CNS depressants may make you sleepier.
- Phenobarbital, phenytoin, and rifampicin may make montelukast less effective.
- Fruit juices like grapefruit, orange, and apple may make it harder for bilastine to be absorbed. Only drink them with water.
- Don't take the tablet with meals that are heavy or greasy, as these can slow down absorption.
Pregnancy interaction
- There is not much information about using it while pregnant.
- Animal research has not proven that montelukast and bilastine are hazardous, but there haven't been enough human studies to say for sure.
- Only use if a doctor says you need it and it's evident that you do.
- Be careful when breastfeeding because small amounts of montelukast can go into breast milk.
- Before commencing therapy, always tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
Expert advice
- Take the tablet at night, especially if you experience asthma or allergy symptoms at night.
- Don't drink fruit juices or alcohol while taking this medicine.
- Even if your symptoms become better, keep going to therapy every day. Stopping suddenly could make them come back.
- Watch for any changes in mood or sleep (that could be caused by montelukast) and let us know.
- If you have asthma, don't take this for sudden attacks. Keep a rescue inhaler on hand.
- Don't drive or use heavy machinery if you're feeling dizzy or tired.
- Keep it at room temperature and out of the sun and dampness.
