How it works
- Levofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, is in Alevo 250mg.
- It works by:
- Blocking the enzymes DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV in bacteria.
- Stopping bacteria from copying their DNA and splitting into two cells.
- This kills the microorganisms that cause infections.
Medicine Interaction
- Stay away from or use with care:
- Aluminum and magnesium antacids
- Supplements of iron, zinc, and calcium
- NSAIDs (higher chance of having seizures)
- Warfarin and other blood thinners
- Anti-arrhythmic drugs (Amiodarone, Sotalol)
- Steroids (raise the risk of tendon tears)
- Probenecid and Cimetidine raise the levels of Levofloxacin.
- Don't drink alcohol because it could make your dizziness worse.
How to Use
- Take one pill or as your doctor says to.
- Take the tablet with a full glass of water.
- You can take it with or without food.
- Keep a two-hour break between taking antacids, multivitamins, or dairy products.
- Do not skip doses or stop taking them early.
- If you forget to take a dose, do it as soon as you can, unless it's almost time for the next one.
